Successful SAP Implementation and Training

With more than 90 years of history in the mining industry, the client is one of the world’s largest gold producers. Through responsible mining, they believe they can create a stronger business and value for all their stakeholders. Additionally, they are the only gold producer listed in the S&P 500 index.

The client implemented SAP FICO to replace multiple legacy systems, which provided executives in Denver, CO with real-time visibility into the mining operations in South America. Training was also provided for the new system.

Key Challenges

The client’s gold mine in Suriname, South America, had been reporting all financial data through multiple systems. Their deep-rooted process involved duplicate data entry into Excel and QuickBooks and did not provide real-time data to leadership. The biggest challenge was developing a training curriculum and delivering it in the right manner to engage the audience. Some users had been working with the old systems and processes for over 20 years, therefore it was essential to have them adopt the new system.


Planet Technology deployed a team of training experts with complementary skills in the FICO sub-modules. The team created training plans and developed materials and curriculum, which was successfully delivered on site in Suriname. Implementing SAP FICO enabled the client to improve their process and now provides their U.S. headquarters with access to real-time data.
